Press Notes

The following statement is authorized by Veteran Medical Emergency Transport, Inc. for immediate release.

VetMet is a grassroots non-profit* dedicated to serving our veterans in a new and unique way.  It is our vision and long term goal to ensure that every eligible U.S. Military Veteran enjoys worry-free access to life saving medical emergency transport, without the fear of severe financial consequence and burdensome ambulance bills. It’s our mission to “proudly serve those who served proudly”. Join us in serving our veterans in this unique and needful way.

Our organization is in its infancy, having been founded in Oregon on Veterans Day, 2018.  Our Board Members are highly dedicated to achieving our goals to serve Veterans.  Our advisory council members include such notables as Cmdr. Rick Higgins, Oregon State Commander of the VFW, DeLeesa Meashintubby, Executive Director of Volunteers in Medicine and Reverend June Fothergill, UMC, to mention a few.

Presently we are in discussions with Life Flight Regional Director Jacob Dalstra regarding the formation of an alliance with their organization to provide services to their Veteran members.  We are working with Senator Wyden’s office and Juine Chada to further the growth and outreach of our organization.

But to clarify, Vet Met is NOT an Ambulance Service nor do we provide any Medical Transport. VetMET is currently in negotiations with a major organization to provide Veterans with a membership that will cover emergency medical transport throughout the state of Oregon.  It is the position of VetMET that no eligible Veteran should be denied emergency medical transport just because they can’t afford it or because their illness or injury isn’t service connected.

In a 2016 study conducted by two major independent research organizations, it was reported that nearly 300,000 veterans died as a result of a lack of immediate care.  A significant amount of those deaths were attributed to the lack of or denial of coverage for emergency medical transport. Often, the underlying reason was the fear of or an inability to pay the expensive ambulance bill.

VetMet intends to step in and provide a membership that satisfies that need. Help us make a difference and help a Vet.
